The interaction of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate with human hemoglobin. Effects on the alkaline and acid Bohr effect.
A model is presented which is able to describe satisfactorily the increase of the alkaline and acid Bohr effect due to the binding by human hemoglobin of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate. From an analysis of this extra Bohr effect it could be concluded that the histidines H21(143)/3 are very probably responsible for the increase in alkaline Bohr effect.
